Welcome Back Sunnyside School Teachers, Parents and Students:
We are excited about a new school year at Sunnyside School and we have a number of activities and programs planned for the upcoming year. We are still finalizing some of the dates and times and we will keep you informed as we get things finalized. Parents, students or staff who would be interested in getting involved in any of these projects should contact Maureen.hosty@oregonstate.edu , call 503-916- 6075 or stop by the 4-H office in room 204.

Middle School Urban/Rural Exchange (Three exchanges for 2007-08)

We are pleased to announce that we will be expanding the 4-H Urban-Rural Exchange to a third site this year. Discussions are underway with Wallowa County 4-H Ranch families to host Sunnyside School youth for 5 days this fall or early winter. The Grant County 4-H Ranch Family Exchange will take place again on Presidents Day weekend and the Klamath County 4-H Farm/Ranch Exchange dates are not yet set. These exchanges are designed to introduce urban SES youth to rural Oregon and gain greater understanding about natural resource management from a rural Oregon perspective.

4-H After School Clubs

We will again be working with parents to continue the successful K-2 after-school club for Sunnyside Schools. We also hope to add a second club this year for grades 3-4. We have parents who are interested in leading these clubs. An in depth 4-H Leader Training has been scheduled for October 12-14th at the 4-H Center. Training can be completed on line, on-site, or a combination of both.

In-School Enrichment

The 4-H program will again be hosting a variety of in-school enrichment programs in cooperation with classroom teachers. Some of these programs include

• 4-H Fish Stewards (raising salmon from eggs to fry) – grades 3-5
• 4-H Incredible Egg (hatching chickens in the classroom) – Kindergarten

Sunnyside Native Plant Sale (April)

Rose Show (June)

NEW for 2007-08

We also have several new projects in the planning stages including

• renewable energy/sustainable development training and curriculum
• new opportunities for family camps at the 4-H Center in Salem,
• A web-based site monitoring on the new 4-H Corroboree website.

As always parents, students or teachers who would like to explore OSU/4-H resources or other options for programs, curriculum, or training, please contact me to set up a time to visit.
