my freinds and I want to make a enviromental group so i wanted to kno if someone can give me ideas?

Posted by admin on July 13th, 2010 and filed under enviromental | 3 Comments »

we want to make a enviromental group because we really want to help the enviroment(were only teenagers) it would be nice it you can give me some ideas on things to do or advice

The idea of the first poster was good – start a new school chapter of a non-profit. Greenpeace, Sierra Fund, etc. They will send you a package of start-up info and ideas of how to fundraise, etc.

One big thing you can do is planting trees. We did a tree-planting ceremony when I was in high school. We first had a fundraiser (basically a bake sale – nothing big) and with the few hundred dollars we raised, we bought a whole bunch of tree saplings.

Then, one day after school, we planted all the saplings around the school grounds. We then had our teacher sponsor (all clubs at high schools need teacher sponsors – so go around to your teachers to ask if they’ll sponsor you) and the principal and a counsellor there and had the principal cut a ribbon.

We also invited the school paper. They took lots of photos of us planting as well us with the principal cutting the ribbon. They interviewed us and had a big article on the front page of the school paper. That sort of thing is great for raising awareness of the issue.

After that article, lots of other students wanted to join our group and it grew from there.

Good luck!

what are some enviromental factors of wave power can be good or bad and also how long does it take till it gives out energy and does it make more energy than it uses

well to me… a 15 year old girl’s perspective [you wont get some crazy smart answer,] its good kindof like… instead of useing fossilfules.. and all this stuff that pollutes the air..its good for that….But i do think we shouldedn’t mess with the ocean i mean…it would seriously fuck with the fish and wild life down there i think…MAYYBEEE if like.. they picked a clear part were there isnt any fish or coral but…. even then like the parts that would be in or ontop of the water could have some sort of bactiria or parasite that would also be bad for the fish, or simply a pice would just brake off and liek get cought in their throat or they get stuck in it..AHAHAHHA wow that was alot to say

UW Enviromental Innovation Challenge – Team Nanocel interview

Posted by admin on July 8th, 2010 and filed under enviromental | No Comments »

With everyone talking about green jobs and the power of innovation to create growth, the UW Environmental Innovation Challenge emphasizes clean-tech solutions to environmental problems AND market impact. After a year of planning and with the support of the Foster School of Business, the Applied Physics Lab, College of Engineering, and College of the Environment, the UW Environmental Innovation Challenge launched on April 1.

16 student teams—representing the University of Washington, along with Washington State University, Western Washington University, Seattle University, and Bainbridge Graduate Institute—pitched their ideas ranging from vending machines to eliminate plastic water bottles and systems for boosting the efficiency of industrial motors to algae-based fuels and harnessing wind power to desalinate water. The students came from business, engineering, environment, urban planning, and other disciplines, and they all share a passion for clean tech and a resolve to provide an environmental impact.

Congratulations to the 2009 winners!

$10,000 Grand Prize, sponsored by UW TechTransfer
HydroSense (real-time tracking of in-home water consumption)

$5,000 Second Prize, sponsored by Davis Wright Tremaine
Nanocel (electronic cooling—ie. how to keep your laptop from getting too hot!)

$2,500 Honorable Mention, sponsored by Perkins Coie
Wind20 (production of potable water using wind energy)

$2,500 Honorable Mention, sponsored by WTIA (Washington Technology Industry Alliance )
Ecowell (vending machines to refill drinking containers)

$2,500 Honorable Mention, sponsored by Teledyne
InTheWorks (marine engine emission reduction)

What is the enviromental impact of using pipes?

Posted by admin on July 4th, 2010 and filed under enviromental | 2 Comments »

Whats the enviromental impact of using pipes, airplanes, boats, and driving for transportation
ya daed… or whatever your name is im not from public school and im not even in elementry it was just some quesiton i wanted to ask and nothing to do with my HIGH SCHOOL homework

Depending on how it’s done piping can be fairly low-impact.

Huge piping runs through forested areas can cut a swath through which is short-term destructive, but once it is in the cover can grow again.

Airplanes, powered boats and driving all have huge carbon footprints. Airplanes and their associated airports can be very hazardous to birds as well. Powered boats’ noise alone is detrimental wildlife in the area as well as disturbing currents and sensitive underwater ecologies. Cars are responsible for oil being washed into waterways everywhere.

how do i reset my enviromental variables to there default setting?

Posted by admin on July 1st, 2010 and filed under enviromental | 1 Comment »

i need to know how i can reset my enviromental variables to there default setting.

Env variables don’t usually have "default" settings. If you’re writing a program that changes some temporarily while it runs, it’s responsible for saving the values when it starts and restoring them before it exits. The tricky part is catching and restoring on all possible error exits. Programs that change environment variables and don’t clean up after themselves are not well behaved.

If it’s any consolation, some operating systems purposely give running processes their own set of env variables and don’t pass changes back to their calling processes.

Hope that helps.

Severn Suzuki from ECO speaking at an UN Conference in Rio 1992. Sadly 15 years on an not much has changed. Unfortunately I am not optimistic about the matter and feel like we’re on our way to apocalipse – but it is my duty to at least try and spread the message and post this video here – who knows who’s watching?
