He spunked a cool billion pounds on Africa last Summer. It was a surprise statement from the Treasury that they had decided to just pay up a billion… seperate to all the Live8 and debt relief.

Got him a week of good publicity whilst he went a visiting some of the African villages.

Well worth it.

Is adverse selection lessened if insurers use Env.Agency info on flood risk instead of relying on postcodes?

Posted by admin on June 20th, 2010 and filed under environment agency | 2 Comments »

Need to understand if adverse selection in insurance is reduced if insurers use detailed info from the environment agency instead of just postcode details of an area. Thanks.

Insurance companies have the information that is published by the environmental agency, so they are taking that into consideration as well when underwriting is taking place.

Why do we have to fight Bush’s Environmental Protection Agency to get them to protect the environment?

Posted by admin on June 17th, 2010 and filed under environment agency | 5 Comments »

Bush’s Environmental Protection Agency lost in Court now mercury emission will be lower. The EPA was told to not ignore the law an estimated 60,000 birth defects will be prevented.
This is a win for people who have or will have children. This is a loss for the EPA, Bush Administration and the Power Plants.
Spock: You would rather close the powerplants then follow the environmental protection laws passed to limit the amout of mercury we ingest? Thats illogical Spock!!

Correct–btu to answer your question. To begin with, Bush started bypassing the EPA in 2001 when, following a meeting with oil company exectuives, he reneged on his promise to support caps on carbon emissions. The new head of the EPA (and all scientists) were excluded from this meeting.. She’s long gone, of course (that new head of the EPA, that is).

The Bush adminstration has purged the EPA of legitimate managers and installed his political friends from the fossil fuel industry. In addition he has issued executive orders lifting much of the EPA’s authority and a number of environmental regulations. In short, he’s done everything he could to render the agency inneffective.

There are still a lot of good career people at the EPA. but under the circumstances, they CAN’T do anything unless they are ordered to by a court, much as much as many of them would like to.

Of course it has.
The environment is less protected and businesses have a lot more red tape.
Government intervention is always more effective than private enterprise NOT

How has the Environmental Protection Agency helped the environment ‘recently’?

Posted by admin on June 9th, 2010 and filed under environment agency | 1 Comment »

Please!! the belief that any governmental agency has helped any thing is an oxymoron.

I believe this is one of those questions that the answer lies in your lecture notes or text book. The purpose of a homework question is to get the student to actually read the text book. I’d be more than happy to evaluate your work but Google is your friend and I’d like to give you an incentive to find the EPA homepage/Wikipedia article if you are disinclined to go through your text book.
