Message from the PTSA President

September 2007

Greetings SES Families,

Welcome and/or welcome back to school! We hope the summer has treated you and your family and friends to a season of relaxed growth and good times. I am writing to introduce your Sunnyside Environmental School PTSA and invite you to join our efforts in the year ahead.

The mission of the SES PTSA is to support the mission of Sunnyside Environmental School by enhancing educational opportunities for students and families, supporting our staff, and promoting family and community involvement in our school. We carry out this mission by focusing our activities on

• Raising funds to invest in enhanced learning opportunities and support for teachers, classrooms and our physical environment.
• Sponsoring events and volunteer opportunities that promote strong family and community involvement in SES.
• Actively promoting communication between school and families and developing the school community.

We have a tremendous PTSA Board this year. This group of talented and dedicated parents and teachers are already working hard to realize the PTSA mission. We have planned a series of fundraising events that are better aligned with the school mission than they have ever been. With these funds, we are investing in arts enrichment, building improvements, and creating a vision for future grounds improvements. A rich calendar of events has been created so that our families can get to know each other and this school that supports the educational journey of their children. We are launching a new system to replace “white envelopes” so that families will have a reliable way to receive and return paper based communication from the classroom and school.

SES is an exciting place for children to be educated. To ensure the rich environment we all want for our children, we need to tap into the collective energy, enthusiasm, and dedication that is so apparent among our families. As you look upon your busy schedules, please consider the SES PTSA as a priority for your energies, time, and talent.

We look forward to your involvement,

Nicole Cleary
PTSA President
